Background Information on the Madison/Pleasant Park Project:

Friends of Grand Rapids Parks, South Hill Neighborhood Association, Heritage Hill Neighborhood Association and the City of Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department are undertaking a process to create a master plan for the now vacant parking lot at Madison/Pleasant (816 Madison). This 2.25 acre parcel was recently acquired by the City from Kent County in the 415 Franklin land transaction. Grand Rapids Press Article on land transaction

The City of Grand Rapids does not currently have funds available for construction of the park, but creating a master plan is the crucial first step because typically the park-specific master plan is developed along with an estimated cost estimate and fundraising strategy.

Please note that the proposed park is classified as a Mini-Park in accordance with current National Recreation and Park Standards. By definition, it would address limited, isolated or unique recreational needs.  Mini-Parks are designed with the assumption that most park users would live between ¼ and ½ miles away and would likely walk to the park.  It also is designed with aesthetics and amenities that reflect the surrounding community.
