Tree Pruning Volunteer Project

March 5, 2020 , 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Join Friends of GR Parks, neighborhood foresters and other volunteers to help prune oak trees in Riverside Park!

*We’ll meet at the parking lot at Guild and Monroe*

It is important to only prune oak trees in the colder winter months to protect them from pests that thrive in the summer. We hope you will be a part of this high-impact project that not only decreases risks of limb falls, but is also part of our larger initiative (the Urban Forest Project) to increase Grand Rapids’ tree canopy.

If you plan to attend, please email claire@friendsofgrparks.org!
This project:
– is kid-friendly
– is flexible! Arrive after 5:30 start time or leave early
– requires no previous experience
– is open to all members of the GR community
– fulfills the hands-on pruning requirement for our Neighborhood Forester certification

***If you would like to create a private pruning or planting event for your corporate group, please email claire@friendsofgrparks.org***

The City of Grand Rapids, Friends of Grand Rapids Parks, and the Grand Rapids Community Foundation launched the Urban Forest Project in 2011 to work toward a 40% tree canopy, a goal established by the Green Grand Rapids amendment to the city master plan. Every tree planted and cared for helps to create creener neighborhoods, intercept stormwater, conserve energy, remove air pollutants, and reduce and store CO2.
