For this shift, we recommend parking on Ionia. We’ll meet at the corner of Ionia and Newberry. There will be a lot of walking for this shift, but volunteers are welcome to drive to other sites during the shift. Folks with mobility needs will be able to work close to the meeting point.

Join us for a tree planting volunteer workday! During this volunteer shift, you’ll be planting trees, which will involve using tools like shovels, box cutters, and rakes. Tools, gloves, and instruction will be provided and everyone is welcome. No previous tree-planting or landscaping experience is required!
As you prepare for your volunteer shift, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Close-toed shoes are required to participate in this tree-planting volunteer shift. Be prepared to get dirty! Wear clothes you are comfortable possibly getting wood chips, and dirt on. We typically recommend wearing layers and dressing appropriately for the weather predicted during the workday. Bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and bug spray as appropriate.
Please note: The “Register” button will take you to our third-party volunteer system, Bloomerang. You’ll be able to scroll to see this and other tree-planting volunteer opportunities with Friends of Grand Rapids Parks. If you click on the Friends logo at the top of the page, you’ll be able to explore all types of volunteer opportunities with us.
We look forward to working with you!
